BIO
Kerry Nietz is an award-winning science fiction author. He has fourteen speculative novels in print, along with two novellas, a handful of short stories, and a non-fiction book, FoxTales.
Kerry’s novel A Star Curiously Singing won the Readers Favorite Gold Medal Award for Christian Science Fiction and is notable for its dystopian, cyberpunk vibe in a world under sharia law. It is often mentioned on “Best of” lists.
Among his writings, Kerry's most talked about is the genre-bending Amish Vampires in Space. AViS was mentioned on the Tonight Show and in the Washington Post, Library Journal, and Publishers Weekly. Newsweek called it “a welcome departure from the typical Amish fare.”
Kerry is a refugee of the software industry. He spent more than a decade of his life flipping bits, first as one of the principal developers for the now mythical Fox Software, and then as one of Bill Gates's minions at Microsoft. He is a husband, a father, a technophile and a movie buff.

Chatting about Justice League...
April 13, 2021
Had the honor of chatting with E. Stephen Burnett and Austin Gunderson about "Zack Snyder's Justice League" on the Fantastical Truth podcast.
Though it doubtless shows why I should stick to writing, it was a fun event and I was glad to be a part of it. 🙂
(Thankfully, those two are talented podcasters with lots of insight.)

A fantastic podcast...
February 24, 2021
Got a couple unexpected surprises today. The first was when, while listening to Lorehaven's "Fantastical Truth" podcast on science fiction, I heard myself quoted.
The second was when I looked the podcast up to share it here and saw that they quoted me on the Lorehaven website as well.

AViS option renewed!
January 5, 2021
In August of 2019, the first book of the Peril in Plain Space series was optioned by someone in Hollywood for a possible movie and / or series.
An option doesn't mean that a film will get made, of course, it only means that someone is working hard to try to get something made--making connections, writing scripts, doing test reads and teasers for production houses--lots of difficult and time sensitive work.
Film options come with a built in time limit. In the case of AViS, that time limit was 18 months. Eighteen months to try to get the money folks interested in seeing bonnets-with-teeth on the big (or little) screen. There was also a guaranteed 18 month renewal, at the option buyer's discretion.
A good share of the last 18 months in Tinsel town has been near-chaotic. Theaters shut down, productions were suspended due to COVID, CA locked down repeatedly, filmmakers got sick...
Tough conditions to try to produce the films that were already in the pipeline, not to mention get something NEW sold and made. I really felt for AViS's Hollywood advocates . I'm sure it was nerve-wracking and often depressing. Like being in a barn with zombies outside.
So, as the time of renewal approached, I suspected that my Hollywood friends would take a hard pass on renewing the option. At least until things returned to normal. Too many hurdles! Too many hoops!
Well, today, I couldn't be happier to be wrong. 🙂 The option on AViS has been renewed for another 18 months. Does that mean that something will get made? No. But it means someone is still trying to make it happen.
Say a prayer for them and the process. I wish them the best!
